It's too soon

How does one just simply sit down and cry?

Let me tell you. It starts off with your laptop dying on you. You call up the HP service to get it fixed. They tell you to drop it off at their service centre. You walk twenty five minutes with your laptop through unfamiliar streets that have warning signs saying ,"Beware dangerous asbestos dust" to reach some secluded building in the Mulgrave suburb.

You then find out its a DHL depot. Your laptop is flying off to Sydney express and the HP service staff member that you talked to failed to mention that.

All is fine till the next day. You switch on your flatmate's laptop to check your email. After days of waiting for information from the inept faculty regarding timetables, you get one massive email from your coordinator with six attachements. It contains information regarding only the first week. Scanning through the groups allocated to you, you grimace and you feel a headache beginnning to brew.

Tuesday: 7am - 3.30 pm nursing shift
Thursday: 1.30pm - 9.30pm nursing shift

These two shifts catches your eye. Bugger it all. How to get to the bloody station? The girl who was suppose to sell you her bicycle sold hers to someone else after agreeing to sell it to you.

Ok nevermind. Calm down. There's still other options. Walk. Taxi. Carpool. Tell the nurse you will be half an hour late for morning shifts and you have to leave half an hour early for night shifts. But in the first week??

Coffee first. Tackle transport issues after caffeine perk. Then the coffee machine which has been begging for its death decides to have PMS like you. The knob for the milk frother begins to squeak and milk splatters everywhere. Try again. Damn it you want your coffee. More milk splatters. This time onto your face. You give up and go without coffee or any breakfast.

You then decide to dump the pot you burnt the other day on the stove. Pour some water to boil hoping that the burnt carbon would disintergrate.

Back to crazy timetable. You get absorbed in the details and weird 4 hour breaks between classes and locker issues (whoever dumps their lock on the locker first on monday gets the locker keeping in mind there ain't enough for everyone) and you forget that you left the pot of water boiling.

Luckily your flatmate was around to ensure that pot explosion disaster was averted. Off to Chadstone to buy groceries for camping and Brokeback Mountain.

Coffee at the first cafe sighted. The barista ignores you and when you finally raise your voice to get his attention he speaks rudely to you.

WTF.

Brokeback Mountain takes your mind off current stress. Scenes were disturbing but you leave the theatre looking at Heath the same way you did before the movie. So not too bad. Though Jake is an entirely different story. You simply can't forget those pretty girly lashes.

Bought new coffee machine 80 bucks. Head home. Bus driver doesn't stop at SEF but the bus stop after. Bugger again. Weather was hot and you lug your groceries and bulky coffee machine home.

Called HP. They tell the repairs for your laptop would amount to $1400 f****** bucks. Your screen needs replacing. Laptop crisis has started. Five days to school + no laptop = %^&!!!!

Your whole entire lower body is cramping. Its the time of the month. And for a few moments you wish you were born a male.

You call home and enlist both your brothers' advice for new laptops. The headache becomes worse. How to ship it over? Insurance, tax, air cost? How long? To buy through NTU (cheaper) or at Sim Lim? What laptop model to buy? WTF is RAM and who cares about all this features? I just want to know if it has DVD RW and how much it weighs?

Email non to see if she can bring laptop over to melbourne for you. But that means have to buy laptop from Sim Lim (NTU laptops take 3 weeks to deliver) which is more expensive for Fujitsu laptops (and you want that one cause it weighs only 1.75kg and well its branded).

You start to go crazy. Literally. After speaking to your brothers and father, a feeling of homesickness hits you. You think to yourself, "If only I was home right now." God you think you would be over this homesickness thing after two years but it still hits you strong especially during your weak and unguarded moments.

Everything suddenly crashes. Public transport, bicycles and helmets, timetables and new tute groups, PMS and monthly cramps, a laptop in Sydney, waiting a month for a laptop, a month without a laptop, laptop transport issues, leaving the pot on the stove irresponsibly, camping trip, money issues, homesickness, the rude barista, the stupid bus driver and stupid HP for charging so much for repairs.

You sit down on the sofa. You close your eyes in exhaustion and unbeknowst to you, a tear has already formed. Damn it it's too soon for this. And then you cry. All you can say is WTF.

aww gerl, it's never too soon to cry. totally agree with u abt the homesickness part. you think "come on, i should be used to it by now" but somehow it still manages to grab hold of you. haiz..when it rains, it pours huh? i can't be of any help except to say it'll blow over, it usually does. take care yah..

btw, i saw brokeback too! oh man, i wished i had a huge pillow to cover my face during those cringe-worthy scenes. and also, why did they have to be so 'violent'...arrgh too graphic! other than that, found it a tad too slow and expected it to be much sadder.

xaph: thanks appreciate it.

riri: yeah i'm sure it will blow over..it just one of those bad days...anyway yeah abt brokeback...i agree they are a bit violent. i suppose and i can only speculate tha's how they show their attraction/affection etc. haha

kat: really haha..i suppose once you're into your later years, one doesn't really bother abt being on time. but for the moment while i'm just starting my first clinical year i like to be early haha...anywayz..most of the peeps i know returning are returning this week because clinical school starts next monday so its too late to get them to bring over my laptop as my laptop will only arrive in 3 weeks. so i guess i will just have to wait..sigh
