WICKED

Elphaba:

I know
But I don't want it - No!I can't want it anymore
Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by
The rules of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes
And leap...

It's time to try defying gravity
I think I'll try defying gravity
And you can't pull me down

Glinda

Can't I make you understand
You're having delusions of grandeur?

Elphaba

I'm through accepting limits
Cuz someone says they're so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try I'll never know
Too long I've been afraid of
Losing love I guess I've lost
Well if that's love

It comes at much too high a cost
I'd sooner buy defying gravity

Kiss me goodbye, I'm defying gravity
And you can't pull me down!

So was it a good musical?

I have the Wicked soundtrack; the songs seem rather uninspiring to me. I don't know - perhaps having discrimination portrayed rather amusingly with a 'Green', evil character spells such a lacklustre plot to me. But then again, seeing the musical is, after all, believing in it.

It was in the running for the Tonys a couple of years back with another heavyweight musical contender, Avenue Q - a politically incorrect dig at Sesame Street culture. I thought the latter was more memorable (and downright hilarious) - yes I have the soundtrack for that too.

Wicked won however; by a landslide. :)

first of all, phantom being my first musical at the age of 10, i kinda of use it as a benchmark for all other musicals.

so phantom still takes the cake for me. however WICKED was entertaining and the songs were pretty catchy. prob lyrics weren't as deep as phantom and music not as genious as andrew lloyd webber but the lights, costumes and the simplicity of the plot kept me quite riveted. lots of wit too. definitely a more family like musical. i would say watch it.
