$51

I thought I should mark this day in my history. If I put away money for rent, phone and internet for this month - I have only $51 in my living expenses account until I start work.

I suppose it helps that the weather has been absolutely shit. Cloudy and rainy. Cloudy and rainy. All the way to Christmas. Also everyone I know except for a couple of friends have gone overseas for holidays. This should make me stay home.

I have three books I'm reading simultaneously - Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (mine!), Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire (a gift from Mel) and Better by Atul Gawande (my flatmate's). This hopefully should keep me sane for a while until I give in to the temptation of speed reading all these books (because I just can't stand suspense) and then be left with nothing to entertain me.

I borrowed DVDs yesterday from the university's library at no expense. Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Proof and Will and Grace; Season 1 and 2. That's Plan B.

And I have enough food in my fridge to tide me till I get my first pay so I should resist the urge to walk to Clayton (now that is literally 13 minutes away) and buy beautiful fat mangoes and take away food from Sarawan.

This will all possibly drive me crazy - being cooped up for days without my beloved sun. And Chadstone is actually open till late everynight till Christmas and all sorts of wonderful sales are going on.

I suppose I should have jumped at the chance when I received an SMS from my employer asking for someone to fill in a surgical cover shift on a Sunday from 8 am till 10pm at a locum rate (read: $40+ an hour). Technically we are all registered and we can work. But the thought of starting work before internship officially starts is a tad scary (plus it's a surgical shift and I try to stay as far away from that specialty).

I can't wait to start work and get my first pay check.

To jobs that pay the rent.
